WHO SMOKES?
Researchers are inquisitive about factors
linked to smoking. In a review of 7547 patients who underwent back surgery, they found
that 18% were smokers. The researchers stated that compared to the non-smokers, the smokers were younger, male,
nondiabetic, and nonobese. Patients in this group who have coronary artery disease were more likely to be
smokers. Smokers who underwent lumbar spine back surgery came to their healthcare provider more with leg pain than
back pain and disability. Their employment, insurance/uninsured, and education
status were also linked to smoking status. Fascinatingly
though, smoking status didn’t influence the
disability status one year after back surgery. (1) Altering
such risk factors work just as well for smokers and nonsmokers
luckily. Soft Health and Healing Clinic would encourage a Brooks
smoker dealing with Brooks back pain to stop smoking.
SMOKING’S EFFECTS ON THE BODY
The body knows what’s good for it…and what’s not. Smoking is not. Examining 2307
smokers and non-smokers, researchers discovered that smoking is greatly connected to spine pain. Headache,
trunk pain and limb pain ensued. Active smoking is associated
with pain in every part of the body. The spine and head withstand
the brunt of the painful influence though. If a smoker
does not like pain, you’ll want to consider stop smoking! (2) Soft Health and Healing Clinic is with you to back
your attempt to quit smoking when you’re
ready.
