10,080 minutes are in a week. What do you do with all those minutes? Sleep, eat, talk, work, listen, shop, drive…exercise? Exercise doesn’t usually come in at number one on most people’s lists of favorite things to do with their time. It is recommended that we all exercise at least 150 minutes a week. (6) That’s only
- 2 and a half hours a week.
- 5 sessions of 30 minutes a week.
- 10 sessions of 15 minutes a week.
That doesn’t seem like much, but we need to schedule it into our busy lives, do we not? Even your Brooks chiropractor needs to do that! Time goes by so fast for everyone, including time for your Brooks chiropractic physician at Soft Health and Healing Clinic. Your Brooks chiropractic physician at Soft Health and Healing Clinic encourages Brooks chiropractic patients to continue doing their exercise routines even when their Brooks back pain is not so bad.
Benefits of Exercise
Exercise makes people happier, less depressed and sleep better. (1,2) Brooks chiropractic patients do, too! Hearts and minds are healthier when their owners exercise. (3,4) Just take a walk down your Brooks street, and see how much clearer you think and healthier you feel with your heart pumping. Exercise slows memory loss. (4) Exercise decreases depressive symptoms. (2) Blood pressure drops. (5) Life span may even expand due to heart workouts with aerobic exercise. (3) Soft Health and Healing Clinic sees lots of positives from all of these!
Exercise is life-giving. Exercise is life-supporting. Exercise is all that for normal spine folks but even more crucial for Brooks back pain sufferers especially for Brooks post-back surgery patients who still experience back pain. Post-surgical patients who exercise 150 minutes a week show a significant decrease in pain and reoperation rate states a new study of post-surgery back pain patients. In this study the mean age was 57 years old. 80% of them had degenerative diagnoses. 63% had gone through a multilevel back surgery. Only 35% of them met the greater than 1400 kcal a week exercise expenditure and left them open to a second surgery (called a revision surgery). Only 26% of post back surgery patients met the more than 150 minutes a week of exercise opening them to the risk of degenerative diagnoses, subsequent spine surgery, and more postoperative back pain. (6) 150 minutes a week does not sound like much anymore, does it? Soft Health and Healing Clinic knows our Brooks chiropractic patients can find 2.5 hours a week for their back’s sake. It's part of the whole Brooks treatment plan of chiropractic care.
